Fantastic work on the left marble. How did you blend the dark and light wood parts? It seems to have more than just layer blending, are the textures custom-made?
Forgot to mention, the dark & light wood is a single image. The trick is mapped anisotropy and mapped anisotropic angle to simulate real rosewood, in which different parts of the grain reflect light in different directions.
Thanks! Yes, I custom-made the textures using Genetica 3 Studio. The marble texture and the wood texture are each standalone, with no regard for the layer blending. The layers are then weighted by a blurry monochrome image of diagonal stripes also generated in Genetica. The key is the layer weight map is 4k x 4k x 24bits deep. Anything less and you lose the translucent effect. Also, the wood bump map uses the same image to raise the wood stripes.
