LS07: Komsomolets Boiler Core by JJLudemann LS07: Komsomolets Boiler Core by JJLudemann
Boiler core recovered from Soviet submarine Komsomolets (K-278) on the floor of the Barents Sea.

XenoDream -> RapidForm -> Okino Polytrans -> Genetica -> Maxwell Studio -> Maxwell Render -> Photoshop -> your computer screen.

Changed Fullview Size to 1600 pixels wide. You have to see it. The original is 4K wide, which you can see if you buy the print (:-).

Impressive work! Maybe you know, why is the core shape so complicated?

do you have photos of the original boiler core? It'd be interesting to see the differences between the two :3

Amazing work. It looks like something I'd see either in a natural history museum... or a movie about the future. AT THE SAME TIME.

Wondrous, i still can't believe that its a manipulated image, its looks very impressive :D

Technically, it's not a manipulated image. It's a computer-generated 3-dimensional object with a procedural texture, i.e. the texture is not from a photo, either. Thanks!

when i first spotted this image i thought i was looking at an amazingly intricate piece of crochet work, then i thought it was metalwork.

it's stunning in its organic simplicity and intricacy.

bravo

I wouldn't have expected a piece of art (or anything, for that matter) to get me interested in reading about boiler cores. But the shape is so curious and the surface area so great that I'll definitely be looking into the reasoning behind its design. Why did you CAD it, anyhow? Fun? (Forgive me, I am not among your longtime followers.)

Yeah, I did a LOT of hand tweaking on the mesh with RapidForm. The only WIP shots I have show variations on the position and mapping of the texture.
